Does this sound familiar?
You labor, with the best of intentions, to keep everyone on your network safe and their comings and goings secure, only to be met with successful attempts to bypass your efforts? Well, we have a new feature for you today, and it might make some 14-year old kids cry a little.
We now let you block Web-based proxy sites.
We added a new category to our Adult Site Blocking functionality called “Proxy/anonymizer.” This category, like the other adult site categories, is provided by our friends at St. Bernard.
Here’s how we describe the new category:
Proxy/anonymizer
Sites providing proxy bypass information or services. Also, sites that allow the user to surf the net anonymously, including sites that allow the user to send anonymous emails.
If you are blocking most adult sites, you probably want to block Web-based proxies too. Like Adult Site Blocking, this is free, too.
As usual, this was added in response to your awesome and helpful feedback. Thanks for using OpenDNS. ![]()

Even though my kids are not net-savvy enough to think of using a proxy, I am sure it is only a matter of time before one of their friends are. Knowing that “johnny” can’t go around the fence and expose my kids to some things on the ‘dark-side of the Internet’ just yet is a good feeling. - Thanks

Score another one for the good guys. Some days it seems that keeping our children shielded from the Internet’s scum is an exercise in futility but your tools give us a chance.
Now if only our children’s friends’ parents could be so enlightened.

Amazing!
Since blocking adult sites (and social networking sites) I’ve seen the use of proxies skyrocket. Now I don’t have to manually block these everytime someone finds a new one.
Keep up the great work.

Cool. One downfall of the blocking used to be the easy ability to get past it. Now its a lot harder; though still not impossible. Congrats on making OpenDNS one of the best services on the web. Keep doing what you’re doing. Almost at 300,000,000,000 requests. Less than 6,000,000,000 more to go. Itll get there in no time.

Wow, now I will use this option for real. Never bothered since everyone here at work and easily get around it. This should stop most of them.

Excellent. This will keep the adult kiddies from wasting company resources (and possible legal fees).
People will learn to respect the netadmin’s regime!

Shouldn’t someone who is smart enough to use a proxy just be allowed to browse the net uncensored?
Also, good luck blocking them all. I personally use a secret, password-protected one on my own webhost for usage at both school and work.

Xizer: Yeah, you are probably right. Oh, and I used to do that too, back when I was in high school.

How About A P2P Site Blocking One Next. Its the next logical step. Would stop kids at school checking out P2P Sites waiting to see if Heros2×01.avi.torrent is out yet.
