Hi All

Well, I can only say this, after reading this Sysadmin Partick's story, I think I have felt like that, and all my SysAdmin Buddies all have at one time felt the same.. and Partick, your not a Geek because you have 5 servers in your room.. I used to be a Bodyguard for wealth Businessmen, I did security for some rough folks, and now im a Sysadmin for a Small Financial Firm. I run 1 Mail server in my basement, i run 1 Gaming Server and I have 3 PC's with 1 32" monitor to watch DVD's... because I not only love what I do, like Patrick, but I enjoy technology, and they love me, because I look after them, they treat me well.

As for Nicole, you need to take her for a drink my friend, she didnt only recognise you for your good work, but something else she liked about you, caused her attention to be on you while you were doing what you do best.
I feel a romantic geeky novel coming on...!!

Keep us up to date Patric.... I wana know how you approach this problem, put other skills to test..

I've been having the same week as you Patrick. Power outages, co-location sites that go down, troublesome servers, bad switches, tired UPS batteries... I sympathize greatly.

I especially liked this part of your story

"So now out entire business email is dependant on a server in my closet (in case you think I’m a geek..there’s 5 servers in there, so yes..you are correct)."

As a SysAdmin I can totally relate. I was very suprised when a co-worker From accountinig left me a xmas card last year. It came at a time when I had just finished forklifting a company from PA to our data center in KY. VLANs, blah blah blah, and no one seemed to notice how difficult a job I successfully completed. Unlike Patrick, I was too nurdy to express my thanks to her. Since reading this account I've decided to thank her for her kind words last xmas.

Thanks Patrick
