BroadbandReports.com tells us Comcast’s DNS servers had a rough weekend. According to reports from Comcast customers, instead of being able to surf freely they were confronted with this page when they attempted to visit any Web site:
It’s not clear if the problem continues today, but one thing is certain: OpenDNS fixed the problem.
Welcome to OpenDNS, Comcast customers! ![]()

As a Comcast and OpenDNS user who never noticed the problem I am thankful for OpenDNS! Only have Comcast because of the higher speed and I dislike them less than BellSouth (now AT&T), the lesser of two evils theory.

I can say that the LAST time Comcast had a problem I found OpenDNS. This time, I didn’t even notice. Thank you OpenDNS!

wow, that looks scary…..all that fine print, just to connect to the INTERNET? And wtf do they need your zip code for, when you are a subscriber? And even then….IP2Location?….lol.

Same like a previous poster, too many DNS issues with Comcast led me to OpenDNS and I keep recommend it to other people. Don’t commercialize it too much though!

Furtive
I had that problem. That site would load no matter what URL I typed. It led to a phishing site that wanted you to submit a form with all of your information in order to connect to a live chat to talk with a ‘customer service’ individual. A friend gave me the OpenDNS IP’s and that immediatly fixed my internets. Thanks so much!

Another Comcast person who discovered this service. Thanks! And btw furtive it was not a phishing site. It was Comcast’s regular provisioning site, as verified by a dns lookup, and signed by RSA. Don’t worry, faceless hackers are not out to steal your secret zip code.

I have suffered through other DNS outages by Comcast but I never knew there was a problem because I’ve been using Open DNS. I was totally connected with absolutely no problems. Great job, Open DNS!

I was using OpenDNS before I switched to Comcast, so this didn’t bother me.

I’ve had Comcast DNS problems, too, but since I started using OpenDNS months ago, I’ve had no DNS problems whatsoever! Bravo!

morrison: It should work, it is a DNS server. If game’s DNS reports problems, you also have chance to use CacheCheck to fix DNS automatically which your ISP doesn’t offer.

I’m a ComCrash customer as well, and have been for at least several years. I’ve had DNS issues with Comcast, like they wouldn’t resolve my personal website domain, so I couldn’t get or send my email. It’s been a total PIA. Thanks to OpenDNS, these issues have been resolved.
Now if I could only enter the DNS into my router/cable modem… (LinkSys WCG200 v. 2) The only way for that to happen I think is to have a static IP, which I don’t. That’s why I have dyndns.org (ecjb.dyndns.org) to point back to my computer(s).
