Reminder: Account-less prefs are going away!

by David Ulevitch on Mar 29th, 2007

This is the second reminder that account-less preferences are going away. We don’t mean to nag, but since these preferences are “account-less” we have no way to contact you and ask that you go make an account.

Account-less preferences will be disabled on April 9, 2007.

You can check to see if you have preferences that need to be moved into an account by going to the preferences page. Note, don’t go there and set up preferences now, they are about to go away. Go make an account instead. :-)

Many thanks to those who have already taken action. Don’t wait, get your free, secure OpenDNS account now. Seriously, it’s more awesome. Did I mention that it’s free?

Is there any possibility of perhaps modifying the internetbadguys.com, welcome.opendns.com, “this page has been blocked as a known phishing site”, and perhaps the “Search” page?

It doesn’t affect me really, since I already have an account, but for the old timers and less-tech saavy, who figured it’s a “set and forget” service, they might not keep up to date on the opendns side of things.

What will all be changing when the account-less preferences are disabled? No typo correction, and no phishing site warnings?

Adam, it’s a small group of folks now. All that happens when account-less prefs are disabled is that those using OpenDNS from those IP addresses will get the default preferences: typo correction and phishing prevention on.

Sounds good! Keep up the good work, looking forward to what’s coming next.

Can I imagine April 9 being a big code push that brings lots of hinted at features that everyone will be excited about??? Maybe we can turn OpenDNS into the next Apple where we come up with rumors of when things will be released and what they will be . . .
