Well, it's still happening. I did some further research and found my cable modem's internal web server address, so I could monitor its status. The cable modem isn't losing it's connection to the network — it's my router that's getting confused. Maybe it has a problem of some sort.

Well, in any event, I decided to simply bypass this problem. I reconfigured my PC to use OpenDNS directly, and all seems to be going well. I'll do the same with my laptop. With the exception of my Tivo, that's all I currently have on my network. And when I have some more time I'll see if my router needs a firmware upgrade or something.

Thanks,

Andy, that's not fun, good or anything we've heard about before. I'll contact you privately to learn more. I hope to post here again with whatever we learn.

Thanks for choosing OpenDNS.

Well, in my case I thought there were enough words, but it turns out there are not enough.

Huh?

Okay, here's the deal. When I switch my LinkSys router to OpenDNS I lose my network connection! Yes, I'm serious. The "status" page of the router shows straight zeros for IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway. I've tried power-cycling the router and my cable modem, but as long as the OpenDNS addresses are there I have no connectivity. But if I zero-out the manual DNS entries and pwer-cycle the cable modem I regain connectivity.

My ISP is Ygnition Networks, the only cable option at my apartment complex.

So, any chance you have any words that might address this situation?

Thanks,
